Health Equity Network Monthly Webinar: October - Collaboration is Key: The application of an NIHR Local Authority research model for reducing health inequalities by investing in partnership and public involvement

In this webinar, we were delighted to welcome the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Leicestershire team, who shared how building research infrastructure within local authorities can help drive progress on health equity.

The session explored how bringing research closer to local decision-making enables councils to better address the wider determinants of health. The HDRC Leicestershire team highlighted key insights and emerging best practices from their implementation journey — offering valuable lessons that can be applied across other regions and contexts.

Through real-world case studies, they showcased their approaches to partner engagement and public involvement in shaping research priorities, ensuring that community voices and equity considerations remained at the heart of their work.

Participants learned how local research collaborations can strengthen evidence-based policy, enhance community engagement, and help reduce health inequalities.
