Health Equity Network Monthly Webinar: February - Developing services and organisations for health equity
In this month’s Health Equity Network webinar, held with the British Red Cross, we explored how the organisation is embedding health equity across its UK services.
Donna Clarke, Acting Director of Insight and Improvement, and Ruth Brown, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Data Development Officer, shared insights from their research with the Institute of Health Equity at University College London. They discussed mapping services against the Marmot policy objectives and designing programmes that address wider social determinants of health.
Analysis of service data from January 2024 to June 2025 showed that support is reaching people in the most deprived areas, including refugees, people experiencing homelessness, and those with complex needs. The webinar highlighted the importance of improving data collection, intersectional analysis, and outcomes measurement to track who is reached and the difference support makes. Early results indicate positive impacts on housing stability, financial resilience, health activation, and wellbeing.
Speakers acknowledged ongoing challenges, such as embedding better data systems and generating deeper insights, but emphasised a long-term commitment to equity. Participants gained practical guidance on reviewing services through a Marmot lens, strengthening evaluation, and promoting more equitable outcomes.
